Year 8 Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ben Adams and I am very excited to be taking on the role as Year 8 Coordinator for 2022. I am looking forward to supporting this group of Year 8 students in their second year at Craigslea State High School and beginning the journey with them onto Year 12. My aim over the next 5 years is to provide guidance for all students socially, emotionally and academically to engage each student in a positive school experience.

To start our new school year, the students will be engaging in a crucial wellbeing program titled 'The Healthy Minds Program' that aims to teach students the specific skills associated with emotional wellness and resilience. This is the world's first positive psychology and psychological skills program demonstrated to prevent the onset of symptoms of depression and anxiety, while also reducing the risk for eating disorders. Students will take part in an intensive 8-week program facilitated by registered psychologist Jenni who will speak to the cohort once a week, with Year 8 Form Teachers further supporting these seminars within CAB lessons. Parents are also encouraged to be included in this important process through an information session and modules.

More information can be found at the Healthy Minds Program.

In addition to the Healthy Minds program and their regular scheduled classes, Year 8 students will continue to take part in the weekly CAB (Craigslea and Beyond) program. The focus of this program has been on developing the student's social and emotional wellbeing through planned activities covering topics such as goal setting, positive self-talk, healthy friendships, cyber safety and leadership. External presenters, the school health nurse and guidance officer, and form teachers will all help to present these issues in a way that has proven to be a holistic approach to student wellness.

A process that will continue into Year 8 for the students is the uniform code and procedure for non-compliance. The Craigslea State High School student dress codes provide clothing that aims to contribute to a safe and supportive teaching and learning environment through: ready identification of students and non-students at school, fostering a sense of belonging and developing mutual respect among students. I will be actively monitoring uniform throughout each term, along with form teachers. The aim of this process is to ensure all students uphold respect for themselves and the school through pride in their uniform. The school dress code and attendance support information can be found on the top right corner of this page.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time. The best way to do so initially is by email,, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Once again, I am looking forward to working closely with this cohort, building strong rapport and having a disciplined support structure in place to foster academic and emotional success throughout 2022 and beyond.
