Here at Craigslea State High School, it is important that all students are supported and well looked after. Having a School Based Youth Health Nurse supports our school community by supporting them to solve issues that may affect the health and wellbeing of young people.

This includes:

  • Help with curriculum, in areas such as nutrition, sun safety and the like.
  • Provision of health information to students, staff and family to promote health and wellbeing.
  • Referrals to appropriate services to enhance health and wellbeing.

The School Based Youth Health Nurse can:

  • See students individually or in groups.
  • Do classroom presentations.

Information on health and wellbeing can also be provided by the School Based Youth Health Nurse in the following areas:

  • Relationships
  • Mental health
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Personal and family issues
  • Growth and development
  • Sexual health
  • Nutrition and exercise

Confidentiality

Young people have the right to confidentiality when accessing health services.

If a student discloses information that they or someone else’s health and wellbeing is at risk, the nurse has to act on this. This will be discussed with the student at the time. Students can also give consent if they want any information to be shared with other individuals or organisations.

Students are encouraged to talk to their parents/caregivers at all times.

Meet our School Based Youth Health Nurse

Greetings Craigslea State High School community!

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new School Based Youth Health Nurse at Craigslea SHS. My name is Emma, and I am here to promote the health and wellbeing of our students. Supported by the Queensland Children’s Hospital, my role encompasses a range of activities to ensure our students have access to the support they need.

How to Reach Me

If you have any health-related concerns or questions, don't hesitate to contact me at nurse.craigslea@health.qld.gov.au or visit my office in H block. My working days are Mondays, Tuesdays, and every second Wednesday. Alternatively, students can make an appointment to see me at the student counter.

While I am here to promote health and wellbeing, it's essential to remember that my role does not involve medical treatments, first aid, medications, physical examinations, or ongoing counselling.

I am incredibly excited to be a part of the Craigslea SHS community and to meet and support all of you. Together, we can create a nurturing environment where students thrive physically, emotionally and socially.
