​​Our Sports Coordinators  

Both Sport Coordinators work in conjunction with Sport Captains to deliver quality opportunities for students to involve themselves in an array of sporting programs.

Mr Hayden Brake Coordinates: 

  • Interschool Sport (Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon)
  • Recreational Sport (Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon)
Mr Connor Rudder Coordinates:
  • School Carnivals (Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics)
  • District Sport
  • Regional Sport

Sport is compulsory for all students up to and including Year 10 with a variety of competitive and recreational options on offer.​

​​​​​​​​The Importance of Physical Activity and Sports in Youth Development at Craigslea SHS​

Active engagement in physical activity and sport makes a significant contribution to the health of young people and sport is an important part of our culture and tradition. Playing sport, however, isn’t just about being active and getting fit. Playing sport at a young age promotes multiple benefits such as developing leadership skills, better physical developme​​nt, increasing fitness and a wider range of social skills. These beliefs are fundamental to the sports program at Craigslea SHS.

Sport is offered two afternoons a week:-

  • Tuesday for Years 7 and 8 – both Interschool and Recreational

  • Wednesday for Year 9 and 10 – both Interschool and Recreational

Awards

Student achievement in Sport is also recognised and celebrated at Craigslea SHS through the awarding of Sports Awards in the following categories:-

  • Age Champtions: Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics
  • Team Awards: Inter school teams - Most Valuable, Sportsmanship, Effort
  • Special Awards: Recognition of outstanding achievement in sport either within the school sports system or in community sport
  • Representative Honours: Regional, State and National Representation
  • Major Awards: Junior and Senior Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year

Highlights

  • Other sports to experience success include Basketball, Touch, AFL, Track and Field, Swimming, Triathlon and Cross Country
  • School teams are involved in State and National Championships in Volleyball
  • Students gain representative honours at regional, state and national levels in a variety of sports
  • Zone and Metropolitan championships
  • Inter-School Competitions
  • Intra-School Carnivals - Swimming , Cross Country and Athletics
  • Past students are often involved in the sports program as coaches
  • Alumni and teacher v student competitions
