Welcome Year 7s - 2026
Welcome to your first year at Craigslea State High School—an exciting milestone as your child begins a new chapter in their learning journey. As we commence the 2026 academic year, I extend a heartfelt welcome to all our Year 7 students and their families.
My name is Nicole Preston, and I am delighted to introduce myself as your child’s Year Level Coordinator for the next three years. It is a privilege to support our students socially, emotionally and academically as they transition into high school. At Craigslea, we value and uphold a strong culture of belonging, learning, respect and community, and I look forward to working in partnership with you to nurture these foundations.
Our CAB (Craigslea and Beyond) program is a key element of how we support your child’s wellbeing. These lessons focus on developing essential social and emotional skills and building the capacity to form respectful, positive relationships with peers and teachers. By explicitly teaching these skills, we strengthen students’ wellbeing, reduce inappropriate behaviours and help them understand what positive, respectful relationships look like in daily life.
Your child’s Form/Core teachers play an important role in their day-to-day support, ensuring a consistent and caring classroom environment. Their Form Class teacher will be their first point of contact for general assistance and will provide updates on daily notices, key events and timetable changes. We prioritise regular and transparent communication, so families remain well informed about events, initiatives, homework and assessment.
Year 11 Buddy Leaders
Our Year 7 Buddy Leaders will also play a significant role in your child’s first year of high school. These dedicated Year 11 students have been trained in peer-support skills and work closely with our Form Classes to help guide and welcome our newest cohort. As part of your child’s Form Class, Buddy Leaders assist with transition activities, relationship-building and day-to-day support, fostering a safe and inclusive environment. Their presence helps nurture a strong sense of community and belonging, ensuring every Year 7 student feels supported, connected and confident as they settle into high school life.
Our holistic approach aims to help students grow into confident, capable young people with a strong sense of identity and belonging.
Craigslea SHS Dress Code
The Craigslea SHS Dress Code, developed in consultation with the school’s P&C, is a valued part of our school culture. It supports a safe learning environment by allowing us to easily identify students on campus and fosters a sense of pride and connection. Form Class teachers, subject teachers and Year Level Coordinators work together to uphold the Dress Code and instil a sense of responsibility and respect. We appreciate the partnership of families in maintaining these expectations and ensuring students present themselves with pride.
Year 7 Camp – Week 3, Term 1
A highlight of the Year 7 transition program is our three-day Outdoor Education Camp at Maranatha, located on the Sunshine Coast. This camp provides students with opportunities to build leadership skills and develop positive relationships with peers and staff while working toward key educational goals:
- Building self-confidence and self-awareness through supported adventure, problem-solving, team-building and communication activities
- Strengthening interpersonal and social responsibility
- Developing an appreciation for outdoor education and the natural environment
- Deepening understanding of themselves and others
