Welcome back, students and parents/caregivers, to 2025. My name is Ben Adams, and I am very excited to continue my role as Year Level Coordinator with this cohort, leading them into their most important two years of schooling. Having led this group for the past three years, I am well-equipped to cater to their specific needs and fully prepared to support them in what can, at times, be a stressful journey toward their graduation in 20 months. I know our group comprises students with a myriad of talents across the academic, sporting and musical fields, and they have achieved great success thus far through their hard work and dedication to various endeavours.
This year, our 2025 Craigslea and Beyond Program (CAB) will largely focus on helping students learn about themselves and their strengths, preparing them for life outside of school.
Students will attend presentations by:
- P.A.R.T.Y. Program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth)
- Dr. Joe Debattista on Gender, Sexuality, and Sexual Health
- RACQ Driver Safety Presentation, YouChoose, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services on Road Safety
Further topics will be scheduled for discussion in response to the cohort's needs throughout the year.
Another exciting opportunity for Year 11 students this year is the much-anticipated Semi-Formal, which will take place in July. Planning is already underway for what is sure to be a wonderful celebration of their achievements to date.
In addition, Student House Representatives will collaborate to run our annual fundraisers for a chosen charity. This is always a great opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership and engage as active citizens in a global society.
Leadership
Congratulations to the 24 students who successfully attained a position as Buddy Leaders for 2025. The selection process was extremely challenging due to the large number of high-quality applicants.
This year, the process for 2026 school leadership positions will begin at the start of Term 3, with successful applicants transitioning into their roles in Term 4. They will then hold the positions until the end of Term 3, 2026. The process remains the same as in previous years; however, the adjusted timelines will allow our Year 12 students to fully focus on their external assessments during their final term of schooling.
Craigslea SHS Dress Code
A gentle reminder: all senior students must wear the formal uniform to and from school every day. This aligns with our Craigslea SHS Dress Code, developed in consultation with the school's P&C, and is an important aspect of our school culture. The dress code promotes a safe and supportive learning environment by enabling us to readily identify students and non-students on campus. It also fosters a sense of belonging and pride among students.
Form Class teachers, Class teachers, and Year-level Coordinators will work together to monitor adherence to the dress code and instill a sense of responsibility and respect in students. We value collaboration with families to uphold the dress code, ensuring our students present themselves in a manner that reflects respect for both themselves and the school community.
Attendance
As always, attendance is a significant focus for us here at Craigslea SHS. In senior school, our target is "every child in school, every day." Our specific school target is above 90% attendance. If senior students fail to meet this target, it may lead to the cancellation of enrolment, being unable to purchase a senior jersey, or not being invited to attend the Semi-Formal.
I look forward to guiding students academically, socially and emotionally this year and beyond. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to contact me anytime at badam110@eq.edu.au .
