Science Overview

Craigslea State High School offers students exceptional learning opportunities across the Sciences, supported by an experienced and dedicated team of teachers who are passionate about inspiring curiosity and academic excellence.

Our Science programs encourage students to explore the world around them through engaging, hands-on learning experiences that develop scientific knowledge, practical skills and a deep understanding of the role science plays in society. Across all Science subjects, students build essential capabilities including:

  • Critical thinking
  • Experimentation
  • Problem solving
  • Scientific research
  • Critical evaluation
  • Conducting scientific investigations
  • Drawing informed, responsible and ethical conclusions

Throughout their studies, students develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world while gaining an appreciation of how scientific knowledge has evolved over time and continues to shape our future. They also develop respect for the environment, and an understanding of the important contribution science makes to addressing local and global challenges.

Senior students can choose from a diverse range of subjects including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Marine Science
  • Psychology
  • Science in Practice and
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Skills (MSL30122)

These pathways provide opportunities to develop specialised knowledge, practical laboratory skills and industry-relevant experience, preparing students for further study and careers in health, engineering, environmental science, research, technology and many other STEM fields.

Beyond the classroom, students can further enrich their learning through the Science Excellence Program, competitions, excursions, fieldwork and other extension opportunities that foster innovation, collaboration and scientific inquiry.

At Craigslea, we empower students to question, investigate and discover, equipping them with the confidence and skills to become informed, responsible and future-ready global citizens.
