          Camps and Field Trips

          Year 11 Biology Camp

Year 11 Biology students have the option to travel to Konomie Island Environmental Education Centre, surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef, and become familiar with ways in which data about biotic and abiotic factors can be accurately collected employing scientific sampling techniques.

          Year 10 Introductory Biology Camp

Year 10 students travel to Cooloola National Park and camp at Lake Freshwater for three days. Lake Freshwater is the perfect base for the excursion where students are able to complete studies on Succession, Adaptations of Plants on the Frontal Dune, Comparative Studies of Eucalypt and Rainforest Ecosystems, and Investigation of Animals on the Exposed Rocky Shore.

          Year 9 Science Field Trip

Year 9 students visit Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre at Griffith University, Nathan Campus. This excursion provides students with the opportunity to collect biotic and abiotic data, and use this data to compare and evaluate two terrestrial (land based) ecosystems. This data is then used to investigate how ecosystems respond and change as a result of high or low intensity burns.

Year 8 Excellence in Science Field Trip

Students in the Year 8 Excellence in Science program attend various presentations at the World Science Festival every year in March. They engage with industry professionals and explore 'hands-on' activities that inspire interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) field.

Year 7 Excellence in Science Field Trip

Students in the Year 7 Excellence in Science Program undertake a full day of hands-on, interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) workshops at QUT Gardens Point campus.

           Extracurricular Activities

Students have the opportunity to participate in the:

          • UQ Research Immersion Program
          • National Youth Science Forum
          • Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) Partner School opportunities for students
          • UQ ‘Meet a Scientist’ Sessions – Years 8 and 9 Excellence in Science
          • QUT High School Research Internships Program
          • QUT Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Camp
          • QUT Power of Engineering Day Tour
          • STEM Girl Power Camp
          • STEM High Achievers Program
