Our Year 10 Preparation Biology students have an incredible opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom with an immersive excursion to Tangalooma. This hands-on experience allows students to explore real-world marine ecosystems while developing essential scientific skills.
During the excursion, students will:
Snorkel at the Tangalooma Wrecks to observe and collect data on marine biodiversity.
Conduct ecological surveys and apply statistical analyses to study species abundance and distribution.
Perform plankton trawls to examine microscopic marine life and understand its role in the ecosystem.
Take part in a guided discovery tour to learn about the diverse marine species inhabiting the region.
Engage with First Nations perspectives on marine ecosystems, exploring traditional ecological knowledge, sustainable practices and the deep cultural connection between Indigenous communities and the ocean.
This excursion provides invaluable fieldwork experience, reinforcing key biological concepts while fostering a deeper appreciation for marine conservation and Indigenous knowledge systems.
