The position of Sport Captain at Craigslea State High School is essential to enriching the school’s sporting culture. Sport Captains should demonstrate a high level of participation in all areas of sport within the school. They serve as role models to their peers and younger students, encouraging participation in sports at school and carnivals. In addition to representing the sporting student body, Sport Captains also represent the entire school, embodying its values, good name and reputation.

Sport Captain Roles and Duties

Craigslea has four sport houses: Freeman Fire, Lewis Lions, Fraser Sharks and Bradman Bulls. Each sport house is led by a team of Sport Captains. Sport Captains are chosen to undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Lead by example in all aspects of school life and uphold school values in a manner worthy of the position.
  • Support the Sport Coordinator, Head of Department PE, PE teachers, House Captains and Vice-Captains.
  • Assist with the positive promotion of sport through marketing on school assemblies, writing newsletter items and researching information about students involved in sports.
  • Assist with coaching and the general management of the Sports Program.
  • Support the running, organisation, student involvement and encouragement of the three major individual school sporting carnivals: Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.
  • Undertake public speaking duties for the Sports Program as required.
  • Provide a positive, safe and welcoming atmosphere for all involved in the Sports Program.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Head of Department Senior Schooling, School Captains, Vice-Captains, Prefects, House Council Executive and other captains.
  • Always wear the correct school uniform, as outlined in the School Dress Code.
