School Captain and Vice-Captain
The positions of School Captain and Vice-Captain at Craigslea State High School represent the pinnacle of student leadership within the school. Each year, two School Captains and two Vice-Captains are appointed. In addition to representing the student body, School Captains and Vice Captains uphold the values, good name and reputation of the entire school. School Captains and Vice-Captains are leaders who are independent, reliable and capable of inspiring others. They are respected and trusted by both students and teachers.
To prepare for the challenging roles they will undertake next year, the newly appointed School Captains and Vice-Captains attend a compulsory Leadership Camp at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre. This camp, which is fully sponsored by the school, takes place in the week following the conclusion of the school year for Year 11 students.
School Captain and Vice-Captain Roles and Duties
The School Captains and Vice-Captains are chosen to undertake the following:
Lead by example in all aspects of school life and uphold school values in a manner worthy of the position.

Foster school spirit in a positive and sensible manner by motivating and working with the whole school community.
Contribute to school assemblies, as well as organise and lead student forums in consultation with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Head of Department (Senior Schooling) and Year Level Coordinator.
Attend regular meetings with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Head of Department Senior Schooling, Prefects, House Council Executives and other captains.

Always wear the correct school uniform, as outlined in the School Dress Code.
Leadership Expectations and Accountability
The School Captains and Vice-Captains are expected to actively fulfil all responsibilities associated with the role. Failure to meet the expectations of the position or demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the role may result in a review of the student's appointment and could lead to the loss of their position.
Any instance of academic misconduct, a major breach of the Student Code of Conduct, or failure to uphold the school's values and expectations will result in the student being stood down from their leadership position and required to hand over their badge and leadership responsibilities.
School Captain and Vice-Captain Election Procedure
- Interested students should download and print the Pledge Form, complete the application, and return it to the student counter.
- Additionally, complete the online Microsoft Forms application sent via email by the Year Level Coordinator. This form will allow you to provide details of your three teacher references.
Nominees and their
references are then considered by the Head of Department Senior Schooling, the Deputy
Principal and the Year 11 Coordinator. A shortlist of nominees is then prepared, and students are notified.
School Captain and Vice-Captain nominees are required to deliver a presentation to Year 10 and 11 students, which will:
- Explain what they believe are the most important roles and responsibilities of a School Captain/Vice Captain at Craigslea State High School;
- Outline some of the challenges they anticipate facing as School Captain/Vice-Captain and explain how they would address these challenges; and
- Describe the skills and strengths they possess that would make them a worthy School Captain/Vice-Captain of Craigslea State High School.
Year 11 and Year 10 students, along with staff, vote online for their preferred candidate. The Year 11 Coordinator and Head of Department (HOD) Senior Schooling oversee the voting process. Captain and Vice-Captain nominees are then interviewed by the Selection Panel, led by the Principal (or Principal's Delegate), as part of the final screening and determination for the positions.
The positions of School Captains and Vice-Captains are announced at a Full School Assembly in Term 3, and the Induction Ceremony for all student leadership positions takes place in Term 4.
