The position of Performing Arts Captain at Craigslea State High School is integral to enriching the school’s Performing Arts culture. Captains should have a high level of participation in Instrumental Music, Dance, Drama, or Vocal Performance within the school and involvement in relevant co-curricular programs. They serve as role models to their peers and younger students, encouraging participation in Performing Arts events at school and externally. In addition to representing the Performing Arts student body, the Performing Arts Captains represent the entire school, its values and its good name and reputation.

Performing Arts Captain Roles and Duties

The Performing Arts Captains are chosen to undertake the following:

  • Lead by example in all aspects of school life and uphold school values in a manner worthy of the position.
  • Support the Head of Department (HOD) The Arts, Arts teachers, Instrumental Music Coordinator and Music teachers by assisting with communication between staff and students (e.g., reminders and rehearsal attendance).
  • Assist with the positive promotion of The Arts through marketing on school assemblies, writing newsletter items and researching information about students' participation in Arts events.
  • Encourage students to participate in annual Arts events, such as the School Musical and Arts Spectacular.
  • Assist Arts teachers and Instrumental Music teachers with relevant co-curricular groups, events or excursions.
  • Undertake public speaking duties for The Arts as required.
  • Provide a positive, safe and welcoming atmosphere for all involved in The Arts.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Principal, Deputy Principals, and Head of Department Senior Schooling, alongside the School Captains, Vice-Captains, Prefects, House Council Executives and other captains.
  • Always wear the correct school uniform, as outlined in the School Dress Code.

Leadership Expectations and Accountability

The School Captains and Vice-Captains are expected to actively fulfil all responsibilities associated with the role. Failure to meet the expectations of the position or demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the role may result in a review of the student's appointment and could lead to the loss of their position.

Any instance of academic misconduct, a major breach of the Student Code of Conduct, or failure to uphold the school's values and expectations will result in the student being stood down from their leadership position and required to hand over their badge and leadership responsibilities.

The Performing Arts Captain Election Procedure
