The position of House Captain at Craigslea State High School is vital in developing community and identity within the four house sectors: Lewis Lions, Fraser Sharks, Freeman Fire and Bradman Bulls. Two House Captains will be selected from each sector and will play a crucial role in developing activities that promote school spirit, raise important funds for the school's chosen charity, lead their house at school events, and foster house community and connectedness.
It is mandatory for nominees to attend House Captain meetings twice a term after school. During these meetings, they will lead House Representatives from other year levels in targeted improvements to their house and school community.
House Captain Roles and Duties
The role of House Captain is to undertake the following responsibilities:
- Implement activities that promote connectedness and community within their house.
- Attend House Council meetings to lead discussions and projects.
- Lead the annual house fundraiser, which supports the chosen school charity for the year.
- Assist with the positive promotion of house spirit and encourage all students to participate in school events.
- Support the School Captains in implementing school-wide initiatives.
- Support the Sports Captains in organising and running school carnivals and events.
- Always wear the correct school uniform, as outlined in the School Dress Code
House Captain Qualities
- Display exemplary school behaviour and demonstrate leadership qualities.
- Maintain exemplary school uniform standards.
- Possess a desire to be involved in important decision-making processes within the school community.
- Foster school spirit in a positive, sensible manner by motivating and working with the whole school community.
House Captain Election Procedure
- Interested students should download and print the Pledge Form, complete the application, and return it to the student counter.
- Additionally,
complete the online Microsoft Forms application sent via email by the
Year Level Coordinator. This form will allow you to provide details of
your three teacher references.
Nominees and their
references are then considered by the Head of Department Senior
Schooling, the Deputy Principal and the Year 11 Coordinator. The
House Captains are announced at a Full School Assembly in Term 3, and
the Induction Ceremony for all student leadership positions takes place
in Term 4.
