About the Program
Philosophy Club is a place for curious students who enjoy exploring big ideas and challenging questions.
Can machines think? Do we owe anything to future generations? What makes a society fair? How do we know whether something is true?
Through engaging discussions and collaborative inquiry, students learn how to analyse arguments, evaluate evidence and think carefully about the reasons behind their beliefs. The club welcomes students from across year levels and provides a supportive environment for sharing ideas, listening to different perspectives and developing critical-thinking skills.
Highlights of the Program
A central feature of Philosophy Club is the use of Socratic Circles, where students work together to investigate philosophical questions. Rather than debating to ‘win’, participants build on one another’s ideas, ask thoughtful questions, identify assumptions and consider the strongest reasons for different viewpoints.
Students develop confidence in expressing their ideas, listening carefully to others and engaging thoughtfully with complex issues. With students participating across year levels, older members also have opportunities to mentor younger students and share their experiences in philosophical discussion.
Philosophy Club also provides opportunities to prepare for the annual Philosothon, hosted by the University of Queensland, where students join peers from across the state for collaborative philosophical inquiry and discussion.

Good thinking begins not with having all the answers, but with asking better questions.
