Hello,
my name is Katherine Puckridge and I am the Year 10 Coordinator for 2019. I am
looking forward to working with this cohort again this year and continuing to
build positive relationships with them. My goal is to assist the Year 10
students in engaging successfully with all aspects of the school environment
and help them navigate their first year in senior secondary and the transitions
that accompany this.
This
year one of our big events is the camp at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre
29 July to 2 August 2019. Maroon Outdoor Education Centre provides every student
with real adventure to enhance their knowledge and skills in teamwork,
resilience and leadership.
To
support students in progressing towards successful careers, Craigslea and
Beyond (CAB) sessions on Wednesdays this year will focus on the ‘My Futures’
website and career support and guidance to prepare students for their SET Plan
interviews in term 3. This process will investigate their interests and
abilities to guide them towards subjects that will see them successfully enter
university, TAFE or employment in the future. Other focuses for CAB sessions in
the year include leadership skills and supporting students’ mental health and
wellbeing.
As
usual I have high expectations of the Year 10 students and expect them to try
their best in all aspects of their schooling. I hope that they approach all
challenges with a growth mindset and strive to succeed. I also encourage the
students to participate in one of the many extracurricular opportunities that
Craigslea SHS has to offer to gain the most from their schooling experience and
maximise their learning and development. Also a reminder that there is the S4S
(Students 4 Success) program on Mondays after school in the library and Maths
Tutorials in H-block on Thursdays after school that offer students assistance
with their school work for anyone who would like to take advantage of some
extra support.
Two
more points that I will emphasise with the cohort this year is goal setting and
attendance. It is important for the students to make ‘SMART’ goals – goals that
are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound. Part of CAB sessions
each term will also be dedicated to reflecting on their previous effort and
progress and then setting SMART goals for the upcoming term. Attendance and
engagement in class is also important for learning and I hope that parents and caregivers
will also make this a priority. If students do miss class I encourage them to
seek the work covered in the lesson/s by seeing or emailing their teacher.
All
students should be dressing in a manner that shows respect for both themselves
and the school by wearing the correct school uniform. The Craigslea State High
School Dress Code provides more detailed information.
I
am looking forward to working with the students, parents and caregivers, staff
and the community to make this year one of positive growth and enjoyment for
the Year 10 cohort. If at any stage you wish to contact me concerning your
student, please feel free to do so, either by phone (during school hours - 3326
5222) or email at any time kpuck9@eq.edu.au.
