Welcome Year 9s
Welcome to Year 9 at Craigslea State High School. This year our Year 9 students will step up as junior secondary leaders and help guide their younger peers in years 7 and 8.
My name is Jaime Nakahara and I am the Year 9 Coordinator for 2025. It is my privilege to support this cohort of students socially, emotionally and academically to ensure they each have a positive school experience this year.
Form Teachers & CAB Program
Year 9 Form teachers will be your student's first port of call if they require assistance. During Form class, students will be apprised of key events and any changes to schedules. We will also have a year level assembly once a week during form class time to keep students apprised of key events and information.
Form teachers deliver our CAB (Craigslea and Beyond) program, which ensures students foster social and personal capability. Students will learn to understand themselves and others and work to engage in healthy, respectful relationships both face-to-face and online. Our holistic approach aims to support students in becoming confident individuals with a strong sense of self and belonging. Our first term is focused on our Global Citizenship program, which aims to ensure our young people develop into active and informed members of our local and global communities.
Craigslea SHS Dress Code
The Craigslea SHS Dress Code has been developed through consultation with the school's P&C and is an important aspect of our school culture. It promotes a safe and supportive learning environment by allowing us to readily identify students and non-students at the school. It also fosters a sense of belonging and pride among students. Form teachers, class teachers and year level coordinators will work together to monitor adherence to the dress code and to instil a sense of responsibility and respect in students. We believe in working collaboratively with families to uphold the dress code, ensuring that our students present themselves in a way that reflects respect for themselves and the school community.
Junior Secondary Leadership roles
For the first time in their high school careers, this cohort of students will be asked to step up into leadership roles. In 2024, students took part in nominating and electing their peers to determine who will lead them as Junior Secondary Captains, Academic Captains, Performing Arts Captains and Cultural captains. These students will work together with their senior school counterparts and the soon-to-be chosen House Representatives in a range of areas. These include providing support, leadership and a voice for their peers in years 7-9, helping to organise and run fundraising activities and major school events, and implementing dedicated junior school leadership projects such as the online technology tutorials for students.
I am excited to work with the team as they have already shown so much dedication and enthusiasm in their desire to give back to the Craigslea school community.
