Academic Captain

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Craigslea State High School has a great reputation for fostering significant academic achievements across its student body. The position of Academic Captain is a high-profile position within the student leadership structure. Academic Captains represent the whole school community, including the students, in academic pursuits and uphold the school's values, good name and reputation. 

Academic Captain Roles and Duties

The role of Academic Captain is to undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Lead by example in all aspects of school life and uphold school values in a manner worthy of the position.
  • Liaise with Heads of Department and teachers of chosen portfolios.
  • Support and champion the implementation of specific academic programs (such as academic tutorials) within the school.
  • Positively promote the school's academic successes through marketing initiatives, including speaking at school assemblies, writing newsletter items and researching information about student academic achievements.
  • Undertake public speaking duties as required, including providing information to Year 10 students to support the SET Planning process.
  • Assist in the organisation of academic programs (such as those mentioned above) and other school and community-based events, including Science Week and Book Week.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Head of Department for Senior Schooling, School Captains, Vice-Captains, Prefects, SRC Executive and other Captains.
  • Always wear the correct school uniform, as outlined in the School Dress Code.

Academic Captain Areas of Interest

The Academic Captains will work as a coordinated team and individually to promote their specific areas of interest. They will report their progress and engagement to the School Captains. While the Academic Captains must be willing to assist across all curriculum areas, each will focus on one or more of the following portfolios:​​

  • Maths / Science
  • English / Social Science
  • ​Technology

Academic Captain Election Procedure

  1. Interested students should download and print the Pledge Form​​​​​, complete the application, and return it to the student counter.
  2. Additionally, complete the online Microsoft Forms application sent via email by the Year Level Coordinator. This form will allow you to provide details of your three teacher references.​
Nominees and their references are then considered by the Head of Department Senior Schooling, the Deputy Principal and the Year 11 Coordinator. The Academic Captains are announced at a Full School Assembly in Term 3, and the Induction Ceremony for all student leadership positions takes place in Term 4.
