At Craigslea State High School, we welcome all International students and appreciate their contribution to the school, and with a sincere desire for these students to attain their goals we provide the necessary support.

The purpose of Craigslea State High School is to create a safe, tolerant and disciplined environment in which young people prepare to be active and reflective with a disposition to lifelong learning.

We contribute to student’s development so that they are able to participate in all aspects of learning, engaging confidently with other cultures at home and abroad.

International students are also encouraged to participate in all school activities –(some of which require a commitment to after school hours training/tutoring).  These include music and sport giving them a full range of experiences which contribute to their English proficiency, while at the same time broadening their knowledge and understanding to the Australian way of life.

Craigslea has an excellent reputation as a multicultural school with a genuine commitment amongst staff, students and homestay families ensuring that our International students gain a better understanding of our ‘Global Village’.

Currently we have students from over 45 different cultural backgrounds attending the school.  Each year, we have a Multicultural / Harmony Day in which local and International students work together in preparing food from their own Countries as well as demonstrating their cultural dances.

Mrs Gail Hay our International Student and Homestay Coordinator has received an Australia Day accolade for her contribution to Education.

The Craigslea Volleyball Academy began in 1980 under the guidance of Randel Robertson. As a former Australian Womens coach, Randel set high standards for the program and it soon began to produce the results to become one of the best volleyball programs in Australia.

Over the years the program has produced hundreds of great volleyball players with many going on to representative honours in Regional, State and National teams. 6 former students have represented Australia at the Olympic games and another 50 have been selected in a variety of National age teams.

Over the last few years, Craigslea has once again asserted its dominance in the sport in Queensland. Since 2009, Craigslea has won 20 of the 21 trophies on offer to school volleyball teams. This outstanding achievement was further highlighted with a 4th place at the National championships in Melbourne in December 2012.

A large number of International students have played competitive volleyball for the CVA. The vast majority of those students have made excellent contributions to the program by bringing their own experiences, skills and attitudes to the court. In recent years we have had players from Germany, Brazil, Italy, Japan and Sweden wearing the CVA uniform at state and National titles.  Because of its huge popularity in Europe and Asia, the influence of the International students is significant and is one that we at Craigslea look forward to each year.
