Philosophy and Objectives of the Mathematics Department
The purpose of Craigslea SHS as a safe, tolerant and disciplined school is to meet the individual needs of our diverse student population including local, ESL, and International, whilst pursuing high levels of educational attainment.
Integrating an academic approach with the modern classroom;
Develop confidence in the subject and to inspire the inquisitive mind;
Develop a disciplined approach to problem solving i.e. a strategic plan;
Develop organizational skills in the subject;
Acquire technological skills that complement the mathematical skills
Provide a range of learning experiences to suit the individual needs of students
Give all students the opportunity to obtain at least a Sound Achievement in Junior Mathematics
Provide a range of skills to meet the demands across the curricula
Develop communication skills
Provide basic mathematical skills in order to equip students for society’s demands
Fostering in students a sense of belonging and an awareness of their rights as citizens in a global community.
Creating and maintaining a multi-cultural campus where students from different cultures are valued and accepted.
Time Allocation
The time allocated to Mathematics for year 8-12 is 210 minutes of instruction time a week. This differs for year 7 where 245 minutes is allocated per week to Mathematics.

Middle Schooling Mathematics Sequence
It is the philosophy of this Mathematics Department that students who are successful be given maximum exposure to ‘accelerated’ - extension work in preparation for Maths B and C.
